PASSION 2023 RECAP
Passion Conference is a yearly gathering of college students, united by a desire to see the name of Jesus lifted up. In 2023, the conference took place in two cities consecutively, filling stadiums with more than 30,000+ attendees. A massive team effort, this quick-turnaround recap was created by a total of five editors and utilized footage from 13 camera operators. The project premiered on digital/social platforms the same day that the conference ended.
The “event recap” category is saturated with half-baked footage mashups - videos that give viewers no reason to keep watching after the first 30 seconds. We wanted to break that mold, creating a piece with unique visual beats. By constantly introducing new editing and visual effects techniques, this recap cut through the noise of people’s social feeds - grabbing viewers’ attention and keeping it.
The biggest enemy of any quick-turnaround edit is time. With such ambitious post-production goals, we knew that there was only one way to pull this project off: extensive pre-production. The team created a highly detailed plan for this project, mapping out the entire edit beforehand with placeholders and inspiration. To ensure we captured all the shots needed, each specific shot was scheduled into the capture plan and assigned to a camera operator. As the conference progressed, a team of editors assistant editors completed their specific assignments, passing on finished puzzle pieces to a lead editor, who assembled the entire project.
Ultimately, all this planning made it possible for the team to create something unique and powerful - a recap video that set video engagement records across Passion Conferences’ digital platforms.
